The Armenian Red Cross Society organized a simulation exercise on "Involvement of volunteer fire-rescuers in firefighting and rescue operations" on April 4 and 6 in Garni, Shirakamut communities of Kotayk and Lori regions respectively. The goal of the exercise was to develop the practical skills of teams in firefighting and rescue operations.
According to the script, the 911 service of the Crisis Management Center of the Regional Rescue Department received a call that a fire had broken out in the school after a strong earthquake. The school was evacuated, but there are casualties.
The training involved one fire brigade of Kotayk Rescue Department of Abovyan city, one fire brigade of of Yerevan city, volunteer fire-rescuers of Garni community, 1 ambulance brigade.
Volunteer fire-rescue teams were set up and trained within the framework of the EU Humanitarian Aid and Civil Defense Administration, the Austrian Development Cooperation and the Austrian Red Cross within "Strengthening Civil Protection Systems through Voluntary Capacity" program.
