May 8 is World Red Cross Red Crescent Day

On May 8, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement celebrates the day of the largest humanitarian movement. Every day, millions of volunteers, thousands of employees, and partners around the world contribute to the spread of humanity by helping and providing life-saving services to people in their communities.

This year, May 8 is celebrated with the slogan "We do everything #FromTheHeart".

Where there is a crisis, the Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteer is also present, ready to support the victims and make sure that they recover quickly, can be more resilient, and live with dignity. Their dedication never wavers, their compassion knows no bounds.

The whole staff and volunteers of the Armenian Red Cross Society support their communities through the following services and programs: home care, first aid, resilience building, disaster risk reduction, communicable and non-communicable disease prevention, refugee protection and integration, dissemination of humanitarian values, youth issues response, implementation of humanitarian aid and social-psychological support, support of volunteer initiatives, etc.

- In the most difficult situations, the Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers bring their dedication, standing by the most vulnerable at the local and national level, sometimes risking their own lives and health. They remind us why we should spread humanity and show kindness, - says Anna Yeghiazaryan, executive director of the ARCS. - In these difficult times, in the midst of loss and uncertainty, we can only believe in the power of kindness.

- There is no more supreme value than humanity. Based on mutual respect and coordinated activity, the goal of our work is to reduce human suffering by reaching out to people affected by conflict, disasters, and other calamities, - noted Thierry Ribault, head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Armenia. - During our work in Armenia for more than thirty years, the ICRC has responded to various challenges related to the conflict. Behind these efforts has always been the dedication and tireless work of staff, Red Cross volunteers and partners who bring bringing a little hope and humanity to all who need it.

The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement consists of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and 192 National Societies with about 15 million volunteers. One in every 524 people worldwide is the Red Cross or Red Crescent volunteer.
