On 21 March, early in the morning, armed rebel groups attacked the Syrian Kessab region and conquered Kessab and neighboring villages, passing and attacking from 3 border checkpoints. About 2000 residents left their homes and all the belongings and survived, finding temporary shelter in  Latakia,  about 65 kilometers far from the Kessab.
