The goal of the project is to significantly improve the quality of ARCS Gyumri's 24-hour care center through improved minimum housing standards, social inclusion of the GCC residents, ARCS and GCC staff capacities, and establishing a sustainable and gender-sensitive approach towards high-quality care service.

The project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), with funds from the Austrian Development Cooperation, and follows certain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as decreasing poverty and reaching to good health, well-being, quality education, gender equality, etc. The project duration is from September 2023 to February 2026, and the target groups are the residents of the Gyumri Care Center (GCC) (on average 160 residents), GCC staff and volunteers, GCC resident’s relatives, Community Initiative Group members, community members, and other active players in the field.

Four main objectives were developed to ensure the overall goal of the project, which is to improve the quality of life of Gyumri Care Centre (GCC) residents through a gender-sensitive approach. The objectives are summarized as follows:

  1. Improving the care and housing infrastructure at the GCC through renovating one two-story residential block in the care center and providing household equipment and care materials to contribute to the quality-of-care services at the care center
  2. Strengthening the capacities of the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS) and GCC staff and volunteers through various trainings, peer-to-peer support sessions, and team-building activities according to their needs
  3. Increasing the social inclusion of the GCC residents through several social events and activities within the care center, including open-door days and the support of the Joint Active Ageing Initiative Groups
  4. Establishing a sustainable and gender-sensitive approach towards high-quality care service through the development of a strategy and piloting environmental-friendly initiatives and fundraising approaches
